How verification works

Every listing on this site was entered by a representative who visited the business or met the individual. Some listings carry a verification badge on top of that. This page sets out exactly what each badge means.
Three things to be clear about before the detail.
We do not collect or store anyone's documents. Where a check calls for a document, the representative looks at it in person and hands it straight back. We record that they saw it, what type of document it was and when it was issued. No photograph, no scan, no copy, no number — not of an identity card, a registration certificate or a police verification letter. If anyone asks you to send a copy of a document to us, it is not us.
A badge is a point-in-time check by a person who was there. It describes what one representative confirmed on one day. It is not monitoring, and it is not an ongoing relationship. Some checks expire, and a listing drops a level on its own when they do.
A badge is not a guarantee. It does not promise that the work will be good, that a price will be honoured, or that nothing will go wrong. It tells you what was checked, so you can decide what else you want to check yourself. Please also read staying safe when you hire.
How to read the levels
Levels run from L0 upwards. Each one includes everything below it, so a listing at L2 has passed the L1 checks as well. A listing at L0 has no badge — it has still been seen by a representative and passed content moderation, but no further check has been made.
The levels below are the ones we operate today, for each service on the site. They come straight from the same records the badges on listing pages use, so this page cannot drift out of date.
